Under cover models are rated indoor or outdoor enclosed under cover: patios, pergolas and outdoor kitchens with a roof. Outdoor rated models are IP24 rated for outdoor use, so they can handle rain, but not direct sun. 316 marine-grade stainless is a build rather than a rating, and it matters by the coast.

Getting drinks cold is easy. Keeping a compressor working in a hot, unairconditioned space through an Australian summer is not. An under-bench fridge vents through the front, so it can sit inside a run of cabinetry in an outdoor kitchen. An upright or freestanding fridge vents at the back and needs clear air behind and beside it. Put a rear-venting fridge in a closed cavity and it will run hot and fail early.
