What settles it behind glass.
Read this if the filters did not answer it. Every figure comes from the fridges on this page.
Glass or solid
Three in every four bar fridges our customers buy have a glass door. Glass shows the drinks off and tells you what is left without opening the door. A solid door hides the contents and holds the cold with less power: the SK206-HD with heated glass is rated at about $349 a year to run, its solid-door twin, the SK206-SD, at about $193. If it lives in a garage, an office or a room in full sun, look at the solid door bar fridges.
Heated glass
78 of the 246 fridges here have heated glass. A low current through the glass keeps it a little warmer than the air, so moisture does not settle on it and the door stays clear. It earns its keep in a covered alfresco, near a pool or anywhere the air is warm and humid. In an air-conditioned room, unheated glass is enough. The heated models are all in one place on the heated glass door bar fridges page.
Low-E and triple glazing
Low-E glass carries a thin coating that reflects heat, so less of the room's warmth reaches the drinks. 175 of the fridges here are listed with Low-E glass. Many Schmick models also use triple glazing: three panes with insulating gaps, which keeps the outer pane close to room temperature. Each listing states its glazing.
Why glass fogs
Condensation forms when warm, humid air meets a surface colder than its dew point. The glass on a fridge door is that surface. Heated glass, Low-E coatings and triple glazing each keep the outside pane warmer, and so keep it clear. A door that fogs in a humid alfresco is a sign the fridge needed one of the three, not that it is faulty.
Doors and width
204 have one door, 32 have two and 8 have three. Widths run from 350mm to 1,350mm. Every listing gives the width, height and depth, and the space to leave behind and beside it: under-bench models need less than freestanding uprights. For two- and three-door models, see the double door bar fridges.
Inside or alfresco
19 of the fridges here are for indoor use only. The rest are listed for indoor or alfresco use, and each listing shows the maker's rating. For fridges built for outside, see the outdoor bar fridges.
Running cost
On the makers' figures, the middle of the glass door range costs $150 a year to run. Heated glass costs power: the middle of the heated models is about $248 a year, against $150 for unheated glass, at much the same size.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
For most homes, yes: three in four of the bar fridges our customers buy have a glass door. You can see what is inside without opening it, and it shows the drinks off. Choose solid if the fridge will sit in direct sun or you want the contents out of sight.
-
They use more power than a solid door of the same size. The SK206-HD with heated glass is rated at about $349 a year, its solid-door twin at about $193. Much of that is the heating: across the range, the middle of the heated models is about $248 a year and of the unheated about $150, at much the same size.
-
Heated glass keeps the door clear of condensation in warm, humid air, so it is worth having in a covered alfresco or near a pool. 78 of the fridges here have it. In an air-conditioned room, unheated glass is enough.
-
Moisture settles on glass that is colder than the air's dew point. Heated glass, Low-E glass and triple glazing each keep the outer pane warmer, so it stays clear.
-
Here, from $396, and the middle of the range is about $1,260. Two- and three-door heated models cost more.
-
Most of the fridges here are listed for indoor or alfresco use, and 19 are indoor only. Each listing shows the maker's rating. Outside, choose heated glass and keep it under cover.

The one that fits the space and the air it lives in. Our best sellers are the Schmick SK206-HD twin door, the SK228D-B-HD dual zone and the HUS-EX108 for alfresco areas.
