Beer and wine fridges
A beer and wine fridge keeps beer cold and wine at serving temperature in one cabinet, which is what a dual zone fridge is built to do. Beer and soft drinks go on the cold side at 2 to 5°C, wine on the other at 6 to 18°C, so neither has to compromise. The under bench models here, the SK228D, SK198D, SK248D, JC165, JC165B and JC190-GG, give one side to each. The BD425D uprights are built around wine; the BD425D-X-B adds a drinks drawer at 2 to 12°C.
Prefer two cabinets side by side? Two matching pairs put beer in one fridge and wine in the other: the Schmick BD425-Combo, two 1,800mm black uprights for indoors holding up to 360 cans and 135 bottles, and the Rhino GSP1H-840-BW, an 840mm-tall stainless pair rated for indoor or outdoor use, holding up to 140 cans and 40 bottles.
Two cooling systems or one
There are two ways to keep two temperatures in one cabinet, and this page has both. The SK198D, SK228D and SK248D (5 of the 11 here) give each side its own cooling system, so you can set the two sides close together or far apart. The JC165, JC165B and JC190-GG need a gap of at least 8°C between their sides, usually beer at 2°C and wine at 12 to 18°C: ideal if beer and wine is exactly what you keep. The BD425D uprights split 405 litres into two compartments for a wine collection; on the BD425D-X-B the lower drawer runs 2 to 12°C for drinks.
Setting each side
The SK228D and SK248D run anywhere from 0 to 18°C on either side, the SK198D from 1 to 18°C, with a small heater on the right-hand side to hold warmer wine temperatures in the cooler months. Beer and soft drinks sit best at 2 to 5°C. Whites and sparkling at 6 to 10°C, reds at 12 to 18°C. For one temperature across the whole cabinet, a wine fridge or a beer fridge is simpler.
Which one fits
Most here are built to sit under a bench and vent through the front, so they need only 50mm behind and 10mm each side. Measure the opening: the SK228D and JC190-GG stand 800mm and need 810mm; the SK198D and SK248D stand 840mm and need 850mm; the JC165 and JC165B stand 865mm and need 875mm. The SK198D and JC165 are the narrow ones at 750mm; the SK228D, SK248D and JC190-GG are about 895mm. The BD425D uprights stand 1,800mm and 595mm wide, and need more room around them. Indoors or alfresco
The SK198D, SK228D, SK248D and JC165 are designed for indoor, quiet spaces: a bar, a games room, a kitchen, a home theatre. The JC190-GG is the one for a covered alfresco area. Each runs at 43 to 44dB. For more outdoor choices, see the outdoor bar fridges.
