Height decides whether it fits. Measure the opening under your benchtop, then check each listing's cavity height, width and depth.

What settles it under a bench.
Read this if the filters did not answer it. Every figure comes from the fridges on this page.
Measure the opening
Measure the space under the benchtop, not the bench: from the floor to the underside of the top, then the width between the cabinets, then the depth. Each listing gives the cavity the fridge needs: for 99 of the 106 here, its own height plus 10mm. 65 of them stand 840mm tall and need an 850mm opening. 19 stand 820mm or less, for lower benches. 20 stand 865mm or more, up to 875mm: those suit taller benches, so check yours before you order one. Most Australian kitchen benches are about 900mm high, and the top takes some of that.
Why front venting matters
A fridge pushes out heat as it cools. A freestanding fridge lets it go out the back and sides, so it needs open space around it. An under bench fridge is built to breathe through the grille at the front, below the door, so it can sit between cabinets. 102 of the fridges here ask for 50mm behind and 10mm each side, and nothing in front of the grille. Block the grille and the fridge works harder, runs warmer and wears out sooner.
Width and doors
Widths run from 430mm to 1,350mm. 60 have one door, 33 have two and 9 have three. A single door of about 500 to 600mm fills one cabinet space; two doors take about 900mm, three about 1,350mm. With one door, choose the hinge side that opens away from where you stand: left and right hinge models are listed separately. For more two- and three-door choices, see the double door and 3 door bar fridges.
Glass or solid
85 of the fridges here have a glass door and 19 a solid one. Glass shows the drinks and tells you what is left without opening the door; 62 have heated glass, which stays clear in warm, humid air. A solid door hides the contents and uses less power. For the whole range by door, see the glass door and solid door bar fridges.
Inside or alfresco
101 of the 106 are listed for indoor or alfresco use, and 5 for indoor only. Outside, keep it under cover and out of direct sun. 7 have 316 marine-grade stainless cabinets, the better choice near salt air or a pool. More on the outdoor bar fridges page.
Integrated or under bench
Every fridge here has its own finished front: stainless, black or glass. An integrated fridge takes a cabinet door panel to match your kitchen and disappears into it. If that is what you want, see the integrated fridges.
Running cost and noise
On the makers' figures, the middle of this range costs $184 a year to run. Heated glass and more doors cost more; a solid single door costs least. An under bench fridge sits at knee height in a room you use, so noise matters: each listing gives the maker's decibel figure, and our guide to the quietest bar fridges compares them.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Measure from the floor to the underside of the benchtop. Most fridges here are 840mm tall and need an 850mm opening; 19 are 820mm or less for lower benches. Each listing gives the exact cavity height, width and depth.
-
Where the heat goes. An under bench fridge vents through the front grille, so it can sit between cabinets with little space around it. A freestanding fridge vents out the back and sides and needs room to breathe; built in under a bench, it overheats.
-
They are built for an enclosed space: they vent through the front, most have stainless cabinets, and 62 of the 106 here have heated glass. They start from $567; the middle of the range is about $1,545.
-
If you want the drinks within reach without giving up floor space, yes. It sits flush in the cabinetry, keeps the main fridge for food, and a glass door shows what is left.
-
Most of the fridges here are listed for indoor or alfresco use, and 5 are indoor only. Keep it under cover and out of direct sun. Near salt air or a pool, choose one of the 7 with 316 marine-grade stainless.
-
Only if it is rated for it. A fridge that vents out the back needs open space behind and beside it, and under a bench it runs hot. Choose a front-venting model for a built-in space.

The one that fits your opening. Our best sellers are the Schmick SK206-HD twin door, the SK228D-B-HD beer and wine fridge with two cooling zones, and the SK245-B-HD twin door.
