Why a solid door
A solid door hides what is inside, keeps light off the drinks and has no glass to fog. It suits a garage, a shed, an office, a kids' rumpus room or a bar where the fridge should not be the feature. All 19 stainless solid door models here lock, on BFA's figures.
Solid or glass
Glass shows the drinks off and lets you see what is low without opening the door. Solid keeps them out of sight. On running cost the difference is the heater: BFA puts the SK206-SD at 2.06 kWh a day, and its heated glass twin, the SK206-HD, at 2.09 kWh with the heater off and 3.73 kWh with it on. Indoors, under cover or outdoors
BFA rates 15 of the stainless solid door models for indoors or outdoors enclosed under cover, such as a covered patio or alfresco. The 3 Rhino ENVY models are 316 marine-grade stainless and BFA rates them for indoors or outdoors. 16 of the 19 are made to go under a bench. See the outdoor bar fridges and under bench fridges.
What it costs to run
On BFA's figures the stainless solid door bar fridges cost $63 to $226 a year: about $106 for the SK126, $127 for the SK156, $96 for the ENV1, $193 for the twin-door SK206 and $226 for the three-door SK386. The SG1 models carry 10 stars.
