Under a bench or upright
14 of the 21 sit under a bench and hold 28 to 40 bottles, enough for what you drink over a few weeks. 7 are 1,800mm uprights holding 63 to 135 bottles, for a collection. 12 are 600mm wide or less and fit a single cabinet space.
One temperature or two
The 5 Schmick SK156 wine fridges keep one temperature for the whole cabinet, on slide-out wine shelves. The SK198D, SK228D and SK248D give each side its own cooling system, so whites and reds, or wine and beer, each sit at their own temperature. The JC165, JC165B and JC190-GG keep wine and beer apart too, with at least 8°C between their sides. More on the dual zone bar fridges page.
Setting the temperature
As a guide, sparkling and whites sit best at 6 to 10°C and reds at 12 to 18°C. For drinking in the next few weeks, set the fridge to the wine you open most; with two zones, give each its own. These are serving fridges: for years of cellaring, a humidity-controlled wine cabinet is the better tool.
Fitting it
The under bench models vent through the front, so they need only 50mm behind and 10mm each side, and stand 800 to 865mm tall: check the opening under your benchtop against each listing. The BD425 uprights vent out the back and need 150mm behind. See the under bench fridges for the full fit guide.
Glass, finish and place
Every one has a glass door. 10 have heated glass, which stays clear in warm, humid air. 11 come in black and 10 in stainless. Most run at 43dB on the maker's figures, quiet enough for a dining or living area. Keep them indoors or under cover; the JC190-GG is built for covered alfresco.
