Here's the short answer: star ratings on Australian bar fridges are not one system — they're two. A household fridge label and a commercial drinks-cabinet rating are issued under different rules, tested to different standards, and calculated with different maths, so a "10-star" claim on one fridge and a "4-star" label on another may not be comparable at all. Even within one scheme, the regulator's own guidance is blunt: "Star ratings of different sized models and features cannot be compared." The number that always compares is the manufacturer's published energy consumption. 5. From kWh to Dollars: the Government's Own Formula

The regulator publishes the running-cost method, and it's one line: annual running cost = total energy consumption (kWh) × your electricity tariff (dollars per kWh). Bar fridge spec sheets publish consumption per 24 hours, so multiply by 365 first. The most common figure in our verified data is 1.6 kWh/24h — that's 1.6 × 365 ≈ 584 kWh a year. Is a 10-star bar fridge real?
It can be a genuine claim — but under the commercial refrigerated-cabinets scheme, where star ratings are voluntary and calculated under that determination's own schedule. It is not the same measurement as a household fridge label, so don't stack it against the stars on your kitchen fridge.
