About Open Display Commercial Fridges
An open display fridge (also called an open front, open deck or multideck fridge) is a commercial refrigerator with no door at all — the front is open, so customers grab drinks, sandwiches or snacks in one motion. That single change is why convenience stores, cafes and bottle shops use them at the point of sale: removing the door removes the last bit of friction between a browsing customer and an impulse purchase.
Our open display range is the Rhino TK series, built for tough retail environments and sold in four sizes: the compact TK-6S 162L (1350mm tall — fits under low sight-lines and counters), the TK-6 170L (full 1500mm height in the same 610mm footprint), the TK-9 260L at 890mm wide, and the TK-12 325L at 1210mm for high-traffic sites. Every unit runs the same commercial platform: Embraco compressor, German EBM EC fans, Danfoss electronic controller, R290 refrigerant, LED lighting and fully adjustable multideck shelving, on castor wheels, at a quiet 47dB.
The honest trade-off with any open front fridge is energy: cooling an open cabinet costs more than cooling one behind glass. The TK series is engineered specifically against that problem — low-E glass side panels, high-efficiency EC fans and a hidden pull-down night curtain that seals the cabinet after hours. Rated running costs range from about $648 a year for the TK-6S to about $1,331 for the big TK-12 (at 25.64c/kWh, night curtain use as rated) — among the lowest published figures for open display units in Australia. Each product page lists the unit's rated consumption so you can compare before buying.
All four are indoor-rated merchandisers that hold product at 2°C in normal room environments, need only 20mm of side and top clearance (100mm rear), and carry a 2-year parts and labour warranty. If you'd rather keep a door between stock and shop floor, the wider commercial fridges and freezers range covers glass door uprights, underbench units and commercial freezers. Still deciding? Our open display fridge buying guide walks through the open-vs-door decision, sizing and installation.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
An open display fridge is a commercial refrigerator with no door — an open front lets customers reach stock directly. They're also called open front, open deck, multideck or grab-and-go fridges, and they're used where removing the door lifts impulse sales: cafes, convenience stores, bottle shops and canteens.
-
Yes — an open cabinet costs more to cool than a closed one. The Rhino TK series offsets this with low-E glass sides, German EC fans and a hidden night curtain that seals the cabinet after hours. Rated running costs run from about $648/year (TK-6S 162L) to about $1,331/year (TK-12 325L) at 25.64c per kWh.
-
The Rhino TK range spans four sizes: TK-6S 162L (610mm wide, 1350mm tall), TK-6 170L (610mm wide, 1500mm tall), TK-9 260L (890mm wide) and TK-12 325L (1210mm wide). All are 660mm deep with fully adjustable multideck shelving.
-
No. The Rhino TK series is rated for indoor retail applications only. An open cabinet can't hold temperature against outdoor ambient heat and airflow. For outdoor bars and alfresco areas, use an outdoor-rated glass or solid door commercial fridge instead.
-
The Rhino TK series holds stock at 2°C in normal indoor room environments. Each unit uses an electronic Danfoss controller, and ventilation clearances of 20mm at the sides and top and 100mm at the rear keep the refrigeration system working at full capacity.
